New clean food for dogs coming to Canada, California and the Midwest
TORONTO, Ontario – May 17, 2011 – CARNA4 Inc., a pet food start-up, has created the first dry dog food to use real food ingredients, all grown in the U.S. and Canada, to supply the essential nutrients dogs need, without vitamin and mineral pre-mixes or other additives. The company’s namesake food was launched today to give pet owners the option of serving their dogs a nutritious meal in no time without the risk of impure additives or lingering traces of salmonella or E. coli.
CARNA4 is made with fresh, table-grade chicken, wild salmon, eggs and whole produce but sprouted seeds give it the capability to bypass manmade additives, which are mostly produced in overseas factories. Germination wakes “sleeping” enzymes and expands the seeds to boost bioavailable nutrients, enzymes, probiotics and antioxidants. The food is also gently baked to preserve authentic flavors and these natural nutrients, which exceed standards set by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), the industry benchmark.
The company is led by David Stauble, who managed a pet specialty chain’s holistic line for more than a decade and Maria Ringo, a homeopathic medicine practitioner, who co-founded one of North America’s first raw-diet brands in the late 1980s. “We offer pet owners the opportunity to invest in their dog’s health with a safe alternative to commercial foods that’s more convenient and less expensive than raw or home cooking,” says Stauble, President, CARNA4.
CARNA4 All Life Stages Chicken dog food, the company’s first product, will be sold in many Global Pet Foods stores in several provinces (Alberta, Ontario and Nova Scotia), as well as select specialty pet food stores in Saskatchewan, California and the Midwest by the end of May. It is distributed in the U.S. by Zeus & Company of Chicago, Illinois and Newco Distributors of Rancho Cucamonga, California. In Canada, it is distributed by Can-Pet Inc. of Toronto, Ontario and Trueman Distribution of Calgary, Alberta.
The food was developed by a team of pet food scientists, nutritionists and engineers, then taste tested by more than 200 family dogs, during four-week trials in the comfort of their own homes. Each batch is made in a family-run bakery in Oklahoma and assessed by Mortec Scientific Inc., an independent research and laboratory testing firm, to ensure consistently high quality.
CARNA4 Inc. (www.carna4.com) is a private, family-owned natural pet food company, founded in 2010. It is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario and has a satellite office in Ann Arbor, Michigan, U.S.
